Reformulated Diet Mountain Dew Now On Store Shelves

Dew...yumFrom the PepsiCo Press Release about reformulated Diet Mountain Dew.

Diet Mountain Dew was has been revamped with a new taste featuring a blend of sweeteners including Aspartame, Sucralose and ASK (Acesulfame Potassium). This will mark the first change to Diet Dew's original formula in 15 years. The reformulation will be met with much fanfare, particularly in Times Square, where a 100-foot snowboarding rail jam will be constructed, featuring an exhibition by some of the best young snowboarders braving a snowy slope in the center of Manhattan. People who are in the area can grab a Diet Dew and enjoy the snowboarding action on their way to the office.

You can learn more here.

Of course, not everyone is terribly happy with the change. Nice domain name - newdietdewisyucky.com - and a great quote:

I've poured more than 5,400 gallons of Diet Mountain Dew down my gullet in my life, and parted with more than $20,000 to do it. To say that I view the formula change as an affront is an understatement. This is my own (and many others' own) new Coke fiasco.

Here's another angry blog post about the change.

Maybe this wasn't a good thing - I haven't tried the new version yet, but I'll look for it this weekend.

Customizable Soda Hits

This post details a company's plan to let the user decide on what flavors they would like to add to their soda - all in the bottle itself.

Here's a picture of how it would work. Seems kinda limiting - what if you're having a total hankering for say, peach-grape soda?

4 days until Blak

Coke Blak4 days to go until the launch of Coke Blak, and I don't know about you - but someone in my house is pretty fired up to try it.

In case you've been living under a rock the last few months, Blak is Coke's new coffee-flavored soda. Will it catch on? The jury's out on that one.

Here's an early review from BevNet, giving it 2.5 stars out of 5.

Has anyone seen this out in the wild yet?

Berries and Cream Dr. Pepper

I'm a fan of the Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, but I'm not sure how I feel about Berries and Cream Dr. Pepper. It might be good, who knows. That's an interesting flavor combination to go with good ol' Dr. Pepper. Here's an image I found on the web:

Dr. Pepper

If you're really thirsty for it now - here's an eBay auction for the stuff.

Again, has anyone tried this yet?

Mexican Coke better then US Coke?

No, not that kind of Coke. Coca-Cola. This story talks about how retailers are selling Coke from Mexico, and how people say it's got a better flavor. I bet the glass bottles the drink still comes in makes a difference.

"Mexican Coke is selling like crazy bro, and I can't keep up," says Rudy Mendoza of El Gordo Taqueria on Main Street. Last week the 20-something Mendoza, Salinas born and bred, was cursing the underground distributor under his breath as the slightly green tinted bottles, with the words "Hecho en Mexico," started to disappear from his refrigerator.

Has anyone had this?

Vault and Vault Zero

Vault
In December, I posted about a campaign to save the old soda Surge, and about a new Surge-esque soda called Vault.

Vault is now in stores around the area. I picked up a regular Vault and Vault Zero, their sugar-free, calorie-free version. Both are mildy decent. It's like Sprite but without as many bubbles. Actually, it's more like the Surge it is supplanting. I actually prefer the Zero version, but both are good.

Hey Vault people - if you're reading this, hook the readers up with some free Vault already.
